Venice, c. April 1886

Illustrated letter from Maxfield Parrish to Henry Bancroft, Venice, c. April 1886

This lengthy description of Venice is the only correspondence to include color in the accompanying imagery. Parrish expresses his amazement and awe at the various water-based modes of transportation and explains with youthful enthusiasm that, “almost all the houses go right down into the water and you can either fish from your window or front door step.”
