Illustrated letter from Maxfield Parrish to Henry Bancroft, Paris, January 20, 1885

Top-hatted, bow-tied birds have commandeered the opening salutation in this letter which heralds the New Year. This humorous and fantastic rendering contrasts to the detailed recreation of the boat in Gloucester which he nostalgically recalls on the last page of the correspondence. After spending a year away from home and friends Parrish’s homesickness is only natural.
